10:00 - 10:45	Practical and Cultural Issues in Designing International Websites If you are a designer, developer or author working on a website that may be translated or adapted for users in other countries or languages, you need to ensure that you don't build in substantial barriers to localization. If you think that the translation vendor or localization team can take care of things for you when the time comes, you really need to hear this talk. We will use examples to examine some of the things that must be designed into the site, rather than treated as an afterthought, if it is to be successfully deployed in more than one language or country. 11:00 - 11:45	Accessibility in Rich Internet Applications: Findings & Implications This presentation looks at the research and best practices of rich internet application accessibility. As interest in Rich Internet Application development grows, so too does interest in RIA accessibility. Despite the growing number of tutorials, blog posts and presentations on the topic, little is known in terms of standards, AT interoperability or usability. Many have made thoughtful inferences based on work relevant to HTML based or desktop application development. Research in these areas should inform the practice of RIA development, but gaps remain. Looking at the available research and best practice, this presentation will look at recommendations for accessibility in Rich Internet Applications, as well as raise questions for further study. Authoring a simple CSS file for a static page is easy enough, but the story gets complicated when you're talking about multiple pages and varying layouts across an ever-changing site driven by a content-management system. Factor in the management of browsers and their quirks — and teams of people and their quirks — and it becomes obvious that a sound project-management strategy is necessary to make the most of your code. Learn how to gracefully deal with legacy browser issues, handle layout and file management demands, and manage team coordination when building Web sites with CSS.	Dave Shea

16:15 - 17:00	Mobile Completes the Web: A Call to Action Real Customer Insight: Vodafone and other customer-insight about how people are really using the Web on mobile phones. Real statistics of usage. Numbers: statistics from various sources that show the increasing importance of mobile browsing. How browsing-capable mobile phones are eclipsing PCs/Notebooks and the special importance of this trend in the developing world. The mobile-only Web users are already here and their numbers are growing. Market Trends: open-source software (such as Nokia Series 60 browser / Safari). Social software: how social software like photo-sharing services extend onto mobile phones. The social/personal nature of these devices lend themselves to social software applications. Challenges: the mobile user experience, the constraints of the mobile device, the challenge that the AJAX approach poses. Industry action: What's happening in the industry to promote the Mobile Web and develop solutions to some of the challenges (including Mobile Web Initiative and enumerating the work of the Mobile Web Best Practices working group on MWBP, MobileOK and Techniques. Finish up with a call for awareness: Web application developers need to be aware of when a Mobile browser is hitting their service and provide an appropriate interface. In this full day workshop, Andy Clarke and Molly E. Holzschlag will help you get a clearer idea of what Web 2.0 really means for you, your company and your clients. Markup, Semantics, Microformats, JavaScript and Ajax.

Clearly it would be impossible to teach all of these topics in a day! But one truth is clear: Designers, developers and managers need a roadmap to help sort out what's hype and what's reality.
