Eric Fain

E. Fain Clearly communicating concepts and ideas to foster a common understanding has been Eric’s passion since starting as a software product designer in the mid-1990s. Eric’s specialty is in bridging engineering teams, subject matter experts, and end users to develop and deliver Web-based applications in start-up, corporate, non-profit and creative design environments. Understanding software and Internet development from each contributor's point of view is essential to managing successful projects, and to creating happy users.

In 2007, Eric partnered with Indi Young, the author of Mental Models: Aligning Design Strategy with Human Behavior, to create mental models for a wide range of clients and industries resulting in: redesigning the catalog production process for a leading computer manufacturer; re-architecting Web properties across multiple user communities for the California University system; and defining how fleet management organizations communicate with their drivers. Eric started working with Indi to deliver mental model workshops this year and mental models have become his tool of choice for communicating user behaviors, motivations, beliefs, and philosophies that define how products and systems are architected and designed.
